How to Learn Kriya Yoga When There are No Teachers Near You

Often I am contacted by individuals interested in learning Kriya Yoga wanting to know how they can learn and begin practicing Kriya Yoga, even though there are no local teachers. Sometimes, they do not have the means or capacity to travel long distances to meet with an authorized teacher from an unbroken Kriya Yoga lineage.

One of the positive qualities of this modern age is our accessibility to knowledge. Compared to the past, we have access to books like never before. We have access to documents, recordings, videos. Through the power of email and digital meeting spaces, we even have access to experts in their field, at the push of a button. This holds true for Kriya Yoga as well.

Below, you will find a list of resources I have created over two decades, to allow any sincere seeker to begin studying Kriya Yoga. If a teacher is not locally available, or one does not have the means to travel, studying available resources is an excellent way to prepare for the time when a teacher becomes available to you.

This information is no substitute for learning directly from a living teacher of the tradition. However, sincere study and application of the basic principles can carry one a long way. In fact, thorough study and preparation before committing to a path, or participating in a Kriya Initiation service, often makes the time of commitment or initiation more potent.

As a teacher in the lineage of Mahavatar Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya, Swami Sri Yukteswar, Paramahansa Yogananda, Roy Eugene Davis and their successors, it has been my intention to clearly share, as practically as possible, what I have been fortunate to learn and practice. The following recordings, videos, books and offerings contain the fundamental philosophy and practices needed to begin one’s path on the road of Kriya Yoga. Sincere study, personal reflection and application of what is learned, will give the best start and information needed until one’s teacher becomes apparent.
