1 of 3 – Prayer and Healing – Unity of Kanawha Valley 2005 Sunday Service
How can we pray effectively?
First, remember that God is everything and everywhere. After praying, be open to the opportunities that arise, and don’t expect help to arrive in a certain way. Total strangers haven spoken directly and specifically to my spiritual questions.
Next, you need to move beyond your ideas about what God is and know what God actually is. God is your Self. When you know what God is, you can respond appropriately to God’s inspiration and presence in your life.
Meditate, pray, or do whatever you need to do to get completely clear. Then imagine what you want to experience. Because we are all individualized units of God, your imagination is God’s imagination. When you imagine ideal circumstances, you are effectively putting out the call for what you want and need in your life.
After you’ve asked for what you want, you need to follow up with appropriate action. Asking and waiting for something to happen may yield results, but it’s helpful if you do something too. God also provides through your own efforts.
Now you need to align your perspective with what you want to experience. If you want to be a businessperson, think and act like one. God’s supportive grace is always available. Your job is to remove obstacles that get in the way of your allowing what you want to experience to manifest.
With regard to healing, I’ve seen how patients can experience good results with healing techniques only to have the affliction return because their internal state is not aligned with what they want. They are resisting the very thing they want to experience. Don’t underestimate the power of your thoughts and expectations.
If you’re going to pray, participate in healing practices, or change your life in any way, you have to take responsibility for your thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Analyze your experiences and your role in them with detachment. Feel worthy of what you want, commit to it and go forward with it.
