When there are no cravings and there are no attachments, you exist in what is there all the time. With these practices (practicing yoga, living in the right way, trying to be a good person etc.), you eventually realize that that the peace, tranquility, and stillness you’re experiencing has always been there.
This is a radical change from what the world tells us. You don’t need a reason to experience peace and tranquility. If you have to have a reason to have peace, then you also have a reason to not have peace.
Lahiri Mahasaya stated that for kriya yoga practice, for spiritual practice, to be authentic and true and really transformational, it requires that you give up the attachments to the results of your practice. Ramana Maharshi also encouraged nonattachment and said that if you are in Reality, then you’re not waiting for something else.
Everything is God, even our thoughts and what is happening in the current moment. The more we can let things be, the less agitation, the less striving, the less expectation there is. You’ll know what needs to be known in the moment.
As long as you are embodied, you will know what’s appropriate for you right now, and then you can act appropriately in the moment. Do your best in this life, and let God take care of the rest.
